Kitchen Island Pendants and Chandeliers

Over an island there are two options: a row of pendants of the same design, or a single linear chandelier. Two pendants look balanced over islands up to 180–200 cm, three over longer islands; leave about 60–80 cm between pendants and at least 15–30 cm between the outer ones and the edge of the island. A linear chandelier should be 30 cm shorter than the island at each end.

Hang the bottom edge of the pendants 75–85 cm above the island surface, so you do not hit your head while working and can see the person opposite. A clear light of 3000–4000 K is ideal for chopping and preparation on the worktop, and warm light dimmed in the evening for dinners. Because of grease and steam, choose surfaces that are easy to clean in the kitchen: glass globes, metal domes and enamel heads can be wiped with a damp cloth.
